SUMMARY:Workshop 3 Integrating 21st Century Skills in University Curriculum through Experiential Learning: Experiences of Medical Education in Hong Kong
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Details\nDate: 12 May 2021 (Wednesday)\nTime: 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm (HK time)\nVenue: Conducted via Zoom\nSpeaker: Dr. Abraham Wai\, Clinical Assistant Professor\, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine\nView Video Recording\n\nAbstract\nUniversity students can become more proactive in dealing with emerging complex problems. Through this experience\, they can demonstrate twenty-first century skills\, which include critical and creative thinking\, collaboration\, and communication (the “4Cs”)\, in addition to professional knowledge and skills. This workshop focuses on the incorporation of twenty-first century skills training in both common core and different components of medical curriculum. The students collaborated in teams to explore the root causes of a complex health-related social issues in a common care course\, a complex public health development problems in a service learning\, and a complex multidisciplinary collaboration in multisystem medical emergencies in simulation training. Data gathered through student observations and their reflection showed evidence of the students applying their disciplinary knowledge and the 4Cs to solve seen and unseen problems. \nAbout the Speaker\nDr Abraham Wai is the Clinical Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine Unit\, HKU. He holds JD\, MBA and Clinical Education Masters from local and UK universities. He is also a fellow of AdvanceHE. He heads the Research & Development Committee in the educational arm of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. His area of professional interest includes Public health problems in Emergency Department\, Emergency Service Management and Critical Care. His educational researches focus on professional competence development and employability.​
